Leadership in agriculture and our rural communities is more important today than ever before in our history. Fewer producers and dwindling representation portray a gloomy tomorrow unless committed articulate leaders step forward to fashion a brighter future. Enhancing your skills through this premier leadership development opportunity will prepare you to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.
The ALOT program is designed to help you become an effective leader. We encourage you to join the ALOT network and establish yourself as a key player in the future of agriculture and our rural communities.
The program consists of nine three-day sessions over a two-year period strategically located throughout the state. During these sessions, class participants interface with community leaders representing not just agriculture, but government, education, law enforcement, philanthropy, health care and more. It’s a rare opportunity to understand the many complex issues impacting our communities…and our unique food and fiber industry.
During the first year of ALOT, participants travel to Washington, DC, to experience firsthand our federal government process. The final phase for an ALOT class is an international trip designed to complement the previous two year of study of local, state and national issues.
As you can tell, ALOT is NOT a course in production agriculture.
ALOT will enhance your:
- Ability to communicate;
- Knowledge of government at all levels and the legislative processes;
- Understanding of Missouri's role in a global economy;
- Societal awareness of issues which will impact our communities, state and nation;
- Leadership and public relations skills;
- Commitment and ability to make a difference.
ALOT Class XIII will consist of approximately 25 men and women who have demonstrated the leadership potential and commitment to provide service to Missouri's agriculture industry and rural communities. Applicants should be at least 25 years of age, but there is no maximum age limit.
Applicants will be selected by an application and interview process conducted by the ALOT selection committee.
